Bathroom Renovations in Vélez-Málaga and across the province
We renovate your bathroom in full or in parts: bathtub-to-shower conversion, plumbing, tiling and accessible bathrooms designed for greater comfort and safety.
What's included
- Bathtub-to-shower tray conversion
- Non-slip floors and shower trays
- Renewing fittings, taps and tiling
- Adapted, accessible bathrooms
- Waterproofing the shower area
How we work, step by step
A bathroom is small, but it packs plumbing, electrics, waterproofing and tiling into a few square metres. That is why we always follow the same order:
- Visit and measurements. We check the condition of the drains, the stack, the ventilation and any damp, and measure up to suggest the layout that makes the best use of the space.
- Fixed quote itemised by task. Demolition, plumbing, electrics, waterproofing, tiling, fittings and labour, with what is and is not included.
- Protection and demolition. We protect the entrance, stairs and lift, remove fixtures and wall coverings and dispose of the rubble.
- Services. We renew pipes and drains, set the falls correctly and adapt the electrical installation to the shower area.
- Waterproofing and leak test. We apply a waterproof membrane or mortar to the shower floor and walls and check there are no leaks before tiling.
- Tiling, fittings and finishing. We fit the wall and floor tiles, tray, screen, taps and accessories, and leave the bathroom clean and tested.
A bathtub-to-shower conversion usually takes 2 to 4 days; a full bathroom takes around 7 to 12 working days, depending on the condition of the existing services.
Regulations, materials and good practice
A bathroom renovation involves several regulations. You do not need to know them, but whoever works in your home must:
- Electrical installation (REBT, ITC-BT-27): the regulation defines protection zones around the bath or shower and requires supplementary equipotential bonding of metal parts. It is the part most often overlooked in improvised renovations.
- Health and drainage (CTE DB-HS): drains with the right falls and traps, and ventilation to prevent condensation and mould.
- Non-slip floors (CTE DB-SUA): in wet areas we recommend flooring with slip resistance class 2 or 3, and shower trays with a non-slip finish.
- Accessibility: an adapted bathroom needs a turning space of about 1.50 m, a doorway of at least 80 cm, a step-free shower and securely fixed grab bars.
For materials we work with porcelain stoneware and low-absorption tiles, flexible cement-based adhesive (C2) and moisture-resistant grout, resin shower trays with mineral filler and tempered glass screens. If you want a different finish, we explain its advantages and upkeep.
What affects the price of your project
The cost of a bathroom renovation depends on several factors. Knowing them helps you compare quotes with confidence:
- Size and layout: the size of the bathroom and whether the position of fixtures, shower and drains stays or changes.
- Scope of work: converting a bathtub to a shower is very different from a full renovation with new tiling and plumbing.
- Materials and finishes: type of tiling, shower tray, screen, taps and fixtures; there is a big difference between basic and premium ranges.
- Condition of existing services: old pipes, drains and stacks, or existing damp, may require additional work.
- Accessibility: an adapted bathroom needs specific elements (extra-flat tray, grab bars, non-slip floor).
- Access to the property and rubble removal: buildings without a lift or with difficult access lengthen the works.
- Permits or notifications: depending on the town hall and the scope, permits may need processing, as well as notifying the community.

Local challenges on the Costa del Sol and the Axarquía
Renovating a bathroom on the Costa del Sol and in the Axarquía has its own particularities, best planned for from the quote:
- Hard water and limescale. The water in much of the province is very hard. We recommend taps with removable aerators, screens with anti-limescale treatment and, for homes in continuous use, considering a water softener.
- Damp and salty air. In flats near the sea, ventilation is key: a good extractor fan and mould-resistant paint and grout stop the bathroom turning black again after a few months.
- Buildings from the 1970s and 1980s. In areas such as Torre del Mar, Torremolinos or Fuengirola, old shared stacks and buildings without a lift are common. We coordinate water shut-offs and working hours with the community, and carry the rubble out with protection.
- Old town centres. In central Vélez-Málaga, Nerja or Mijas Pueblo bathrooms are small and walls uneven. Made-to-measure showers and smaller-format tiles solve it.
- Seasonal homes. If your flat is let out or used in summer, the ideal time to renovate is between October and May, when delivery dates and schedules are easier to match.
If damp is already a problem in the bathroom, see our waterproofing page; for pipe replacement, our plumbers page. We work in Vélez-Málaga, Torre del Mar, Málaga city and across the rest of the coast.
Questions about bathroom renovations
How long does a bathtub-to-shower conversion take?
Usually between 2 and 4 days, depending on the scope of the change.
Do you build accessible bathrooms for the elderly?
Yes, it's one of our most common jobs: extra-flat trays, grab bars and non-slip floors.
How much does it cost to replace a bathtub with a shower tray in Málaga?
It depends on the state of the drains, the finish chosen, the dimensions and access to the property. That is why we do not give figures without visiting: request a personalised quote, free and with no obligation, and we will fix it in writing.
Do I need a permit or to notify the community before renovating a bathroom?
A renovation that does not touch the structure or the façade is usually handled as minor works, but the procedure depends on each town hall. It is also advisable to notify the community if the main water supply must be cut or shared stacks are involved. We tell you what applies in your case.
How do you prevent damp and leaks in the bathroom?
We waterproof the floor and walls of the shower area before tiling, give the tray the correct fall and check watertightness before closing up. Every job comes with a written guarantee of up to 2 years.
