- Fuse box replacement and upgrades
- Sockets, lighting points and basic home automation
- 24-hour phone line for electrical emergencies, every day of the year
The most common urgent electrical faults
These are the faults we are called about most, and what usually lies behind each one. If you recognise one, also see what to do while we arrive, and get in touch.
- The residual-current or circuit breaker trips: an overloaded circuit, an appliance leaking to earth or damp in a box. If it trips again on reset, there is a fault to locate, not a passing glitch.
- Power cut in part of the home: a tripped circuit, a loose connection in the fuse box or a damaged cable.
- Burning smell or hot sockets: loose contacts or undersized cables that heat up. It is a fire risk: do not wait.
- Lights that flicker or dim: loose connections or a problem at the origin of the installation.
- Small shocks when touching an appliance: earthing may be missing or there may be a leak. Unplug it and let us know.
- Blackout only in your home while neighbours have power: we first rule out a fault in your fuse box; if the problem is in the distribution company's network, we tell you so that you can claim from them.
- Damp or water in the fuse box or sockets: switch off the main power and touch nothing wet; there is a risk of shock.
- Faults after a storm: surges damage equipment and protections. We check and assess whether surge protection is worth installing.
What to do while we are on our way
- Switch off the main breaker if there is a burning smell, sparks or water near the fuse box.
- Do not reset the residual-current device several times in a row: first unplug the appliances on the affected circuit.
- Do not touch cables, sockets or the fuse box with wet hands or feet.
- If there is smoke or flames, leave the property and call 112.
How we work: from call-out to repair
- Call or WhatsApp. You tell us what is happening and, if you can, send photos of the fuse box or the area. We confirm availability and a specific time before setting out.
- Safety first. If there is a risk, we guide you to leave the installation safe while we make our way to you.
- Diagnosis. We measure and isolate the circuit to find the origin of the fault, instead of replacing parts blindly.
- Fixed quote. We give you the price in writing before touching anything, with what is included and what is not.
- Repair. Suitable materials and connections made in line with the regulations.
- Checks and handover. We test the protections, explain what has been done and hand over an invoice and guarantee, and the certificate where applicable.
If the job is not urgent, the sequence is the same but with a scheduled visit, which lets us bring the materials ready and complete the job in a single visit.
Regulations and the electrical certificate (CIE)
Low-voltage electrical installations in homes and premises in Spain are governed by the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT, Royal Decree 842/2002) and its complementary technical instructions. Among other things, it sets out protection with residual-current devices, earthing and the minimum cross-sections of conductors.
The "boletín eléctrico", officially the Electrical Installation Certificate (CIE), is issued by an authorised installer after carrying out or checking the installation and is registered with the competent authority. It is usually required to connect a new supply, increase the contracted power or document a major renovation of the fuse box and circuits.
Before issuing it we check the points that the regulations treat as critical:
- The main fuse box and the condition of its protections.
- High-sensitivity residual-current devices on the circuits that require them.
- Earthing and continuity of the protective conductors.
- Cross-section and condition of the wiring, especially in older installations.
- Bathrooms and damp areas, where safety requirements are stricter.
Distribution companies may ask for it when you connect or increase a supply, and it is worth keeping: it shows that the installation complied with the regulations on the date of the work. If you are not sure whether your case needs one, we check the installation and tell you before quoting. This information is indicative: specific requirements may vary by region and type of installation.
Questions about electricians
How long do you take to arrive for an electrical emergency?
In Vélez-Málaga and the surrounding area we usually arrive in under an hour; for the rest of the province we coordinate the visit depending on the area.
Do you issue the electrical certificate (CIE)?
Yes, our electricians are certified and can issue the Electrical Installation Certificate (CIE, often called the "boletín") needed to connect or certify an installation. Beforehand we check the fuse box, the protections and the earthing.
Why does my trip switch keep tripping?
Because there is either an earth leak or an overload: a faulty appliance, damp in a junction box or a circuit with too many loads. Do not keep resetting it; unplug the appliances on that circuit and let us know so we can find the cause.
What should I do if I smell burning at the fuse box or a socket?
Switch off the main breaker, do not touch the fuse box with wet hands and let us know immediately. If you see smoke or flames, call 112 first.
When should I upgrade my fuse box?
When it has no residual-current device, the circuit breakers are old, it trips often, or you have added air conditioning or an induction hob and the installation cannot cope. We check it and tell you what is urgent and what can wait.
